What is the process flow of silk fabric dyeing?

Many newbies may wonder what is the process flow of silk fabric dyeing? Here are some rough steps.

First, we have a QC team to select the most suitable silk base according to different colors and production requirements. You know, different colors have different requirements for base fabrics. After the selection is completed, the base is sent to the dyeing workshop. The above can be regarded as the first step of the dyeing process. Of course, there are more major steps involved, such as the feeding of silkworms, the spinning and cultivation of silk threads, and the extraction of silk from cocoons. However, these are areas that happen before we start our business, so I will not talk about them more.

Secondly, for any new colors or customized colors, we usually dip-dye in the laboratory to ensure that they work properly before going to mass production. The technicians will write down the formula for future reference. So, this can be mainly regarded as the second step of the dyeing process. Lab dip-dyeing is usually divided into two or three colors, and we send the whole set of dyeing liquid to the customer and start mass production according to the customer's choice.

Then, the "formal" dyeing finally begins. The machine we use is the "immersion" type, which means that the dye is soaked into the silk fabric from the inside out. The advantage of this type is to minimize the friction between the machine and the fabric, minimizing potential damage. The color fastness process can be done on this machine.

The next step is to set the width and dry. Silk fabric will shrink during the final dyeing process, and we need to fix the width here to make the silk fabric standard and uniform. Sometimes part of the color fastness process is done here. After this process, the fabric will be sent for the first round of inspection and then packaged. If the customer needs the silk fabric to be softer, we have to use other machines for some post-processing.

Finally, we usually use both inspection machines and experienced QC personnel for quality inspection. This is the last step. However, there are some other technologies that I have not mentioned. For example, if you want to prevent the silk double crepe fabric from shrinking after it is made into a dress, then we will use pre-shrinking treatment. For example, if you want to make silk satin less shiny, or silk power-spun fabric softer, then we will use sand washing process to achieve these goals.
